How weird would it be if Neal had an Australian accent? I just thought of it sometime this week, and I have no idea how to feel about it. It would totally change his vibe lol

Random thought about Dyrus Industries

Kind of random, but I just began wondering if Dyrus has ever hired any female workers to work on Menahat, or in anything similar in nature to what the workers we see in the camp do. I mean, Spectrobes is a sci-fi and set in the far, far future, and in the modern (our) world, I've been seeing the number female workers in blue-collar industries increase over the years. So, maybe it's possible that he has. Sure, there's some of Dyrus's dialogue towards Jeena (i.e. calling her a "Planetary Patrol Princess", and telling her she's got "a big mouth for such a little girl"), but he did try to convince both Rallen and Jeena to work for him because he sees quality in both their abilities (albeit, mostly Rallen). Operating on Dyrus's vibes, though: probably unlikely lol.

I'm gonna assume that Neal needs glasses to see and that his goggles have perscription lenses.

NOTES: Some divergence from the previous chapters. Here's a look into Neal's journal entries. Also, I have no idea how to do the dating system, but since Menahat doesn't have civilisastion anymore, it wouldn't not make sense just to track the days.

Chapter 3

DAY 1

I decided that I wouldn’t do much today. The flight from Wyterra to Menahat was so long and tiring, and the ship broke down on my arrival (which I’ll have to fix at some point). Since then, I’ve just been feeling jet lagged and overall exhausted. I still wanted to check out the Great Desert before settling down, so I used what energy I had left in me to take a quick look. Interestingly, I came across a sort of work camp on my way, and I needed permission to get into the desert from one of the authorities there (which I found annoying…) This whole camp part, I don’t think is so important to me and this project, but I’ve used its location as a good reference point. Its giant gate is now one of my landmarks, being North-West of the Great Desert region.

NOTES: Third-person is still my weak spot, but I think it's starting to grow on me. Here's my shot at something a little more dialogue-heavy. I like to try to incorporate each character's personality in the way that they speak, too. I feel like it'd be good so, if I just put each bit of dialogue down without indicating who's speaking, it wouldn't be too dificult to imagine who's talking. Anyways, here's chapter two.

Chapter 2

“You want to head into the Great Desert? Will I let you through?”
The man at the gate shook his head firmly,
“Sorry buddy, none shall pass.”

It was incredibly rare for Neal to become disappointed in anything, but he couldn’t help but think to himself, All that walking, and for what?
The plan was supposed to be simple: move from one place to the next, and already, he was only a few steps away from his destination. But then, the one thing obstructing his path, of all things on this desolate planet, was a gateman in a hardhat.

NOTES: Here's the first entry of this fanfic, looking at the point of views from every main character that appears on Menahat, except from Rallen & Jeena. I thought this would be interesting. A lot of the ideas I had are written in script-form, so I've tried to convert it into third-person (probably my most challenging writing style). To be honest, I'm not sure if this should all be in third-person, or if I should change between different writing styles to fit certain parts of the narrative better (i.e. third-person, first-person diary/journal entries, script form, etc.). Guess I'll think about it.

Chapter 1

PTCHOOO…

        CRAAAASH!!!

                        Cough..! Cough!

                                        “Ow…”

Neal laid strapped to a broken chair. Everywhere he could feel, there pulsed aches and stings, and for minutes he refused to move in fear that the pain would get worse. The impact must’ve been so strong that he swore he was seeing stars. For a moment, he was even afraid he’d lost his legs since he could hardly feel them. Thankfully, they were both still attached to his body, and thankfully the pain didn’t hurt any more than it did in checking so.

Surprised it's only now. But anyways, Neal's finally getting his own dialogue & mentions page! I'm going to have to re-play the game for most of it, though since I started this just as I finished Menahat.

Great game! But my gushing about it belongs on a different blog... which I will link to later.

Anyways, I wanted to show you these two characters from that game, who immediately became my favourites out of everyone.

Spectrobes 1!

After so many years we finally have our hands on the first Spectrobes game  ^^ now the set is complete!

Funny because in the past years, I actually came across Spectrobes 1 a couple times but always missed my chance at buying it. I’m so happy we got this one now

Basically the scene where everyone thought Neal died because he got launched into the sky and fell headfirst on the sand, where realistically he would suffer a severe concussion and a broken spine, but he survived. Imagine having the powers of a comic relief character.

Dyrus and his pathetic search for real connections - OPENING SCENE

DYRUS'S OFFICE - DAY

Dyrus sits in his office, sipping a glass of wine. Jeena flings printed photos onto the desk -- photos that she and Rallen took of themselves in front of a solid gold statue of Dyrus. Rallen slams his hand on the surface.

RALLEN: There, HAPPY?! We made up for that stupid gold statue of yours.

DYRUS: Well, well, well. Looks like you two really get the job done like it's nothing, do you? 

DYRUS: Tell me, why don't I see any reason stopping you from joining the company? 

RALLEN: Uh, isn't it the fact that we clearly don't like you and that we already have full-time jobs?

DYRUS: Hmph! I already said your jobs don't even pay you enough. Your rates don't even compare to what you would have if you'd only just work for me.

JEENA: *Sigh* Again with all this? We don't care about the money. We, for one, actually like our jobs.

DYRUS: HA! Like your jobs? Doesn't working alongside those pathetic do-gooders and those dirty officers bother you? Victims of cowardice, or bribery and pride?

RALLEN: As if you're any better!

Dyrus lets out a mocking laugh. Rallen and Jeena stare awkwardly.

DYRUS: In all seriousness, how much would it take for me to really sway you into working for me instead? The offer still stands.

JEENA: Ugh! I'm done! How about instead of offering money to everyone you meet, you actually make yourself worth their time?

Jeena leaves the room.

DYRUS: ... 

DYRUS: So, the girl's saying I should form connections, eh?

RALLEN: Not BUSINESS connections, she means REAL connections like friendship.

DYRUS: I knew what you meant the first time. And frankly, I don't care.

RALLEN: WOW! You know what? By the end of the week, you'll be going back to your stupid luxury mansion, having made zero friends, and then you'll die alone!

DYRUS: Hmph! We'll see about that, you dweeb!

From outside, Jeena's voice...

JEENA: Rallen! Quit wasting your time, let's get out of here!

RALLEN: Yes ma'am!

Rallen runs out of the room.

From outside...

RALLEN: That guy is such a handful...

JEENA: Tell me about it. He's worse than his less-evil twin Cyrus. Wait, they're related, right?

RALLEN:  Boy, I can't wait to get back to Kollin. What do you wanna do when we get back?

Eventually, their conversation trails off into nothing the further they go, swallowed by the noisy ambience of the work camp outside. Dyrus sits alone.

After some hours of doing nothing, Dyrus decides that he's bored and wants to go somewhere. Where does he go?

Y'know, with all the ruins raised in the Great Desert, Dyrus would totally take full advantage of that and turn it into a tourist spot. Assuming he can somehow transform (at least) his work camp into a less unappealing place... 

Dyrus meets Cyrus

DYRUS: No way

CYRUS: So, all this time you were real?! 

DYRUS: My father told me I ate you in the womb!

This is actually the background I drew for the illustration I'm making of Zig, Beht & Gorrik running away from one of the giant desert krawls (and maybe feat. Rallen & Jeena). This background might be a little too "nice" for something more on the comedic side, so I might change it.
